By Times staff writer Diana's butler pleads innocentLONDON -- A former butler to the late Princess Diana -- the man she called "my rock" -- pleaded innocent Monday to stealing hundreds of items from her and others in the royal family. Dressed in a dark suit, Paul Burrell nodded when asked to confirm his identity and answered "not guilty" to three charges of theft. Burrell, 44, is accused of taking more than 300 items between Jan. 1, 1997, and June 30, 1998. The property allegedly included letters and photos from Diana, Prince Charles and Prince William, at Kensington Palace, the London home of the princess. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. The trial in London's Old Bailey criminal court is expected to last six weeks. Prosecutor William Boyce told the jury that the items Burrell is accused of stealing include a letter from the Queen Mother to Diana, which began "Darling Diana" and was signed "Yours affectionately, Granny." Harris battles cancerActor Richard Harris, who stars as Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, has been battling cancer. The veteran Irish actor has had a course of chemotherapy after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, his agent told BBC News Online, but would not disclose when the diagnosis was made. Cage sells comics collectionActor Nicholas Cage has sold his comic-book collection for more than $1.6-million. The 400 items included Action Comics No. 1, the 1938 comic that featured the first appearance of Superman. It sold for $86,250.
