Telephoned bomb threat empties county courthouse

INVERNESS - The Citrus County Courthouse was evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat. A courthouse employee took the call at about 8:30 a.m., and a female caller warned a bomb was scheduled to go off at 9:30 a.m., said Gail Tierney, a sheriff's spokeswoman. The county's Public Safety Department and the sheriff's bomb squad, plus judicial deputies already at the courthouse, evacuated everyone, including prisoners. No one was readmitted until 9:45 a.m. About 10 officers walked through the courthouse and found no bomb. Charles Poliseno, director of public safety for Citrus County, said the courthouse has received other bomb threats within the past year. People were rescreened upon readmittance to the courthouse, and Poliseno said no injuries or property damage occurred during the incident. No one has been charged or arrested, but authorities are searching for a suspect, Tierney said. Sheriff's officials were unsure whether this bomb threat was connected to the others.
