DUNEDIN - Pinellas County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday continued to investigate the death Tuesday of a 4-year-old who collapsed on the playground at San Jose Elementary school and later died at a local hospital.

Julian Gonzalez-Hargis, of Dunedin, went into a pediatric seizure and collapsed near the playground slide shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday, deputies said. He was transported to Mease Dunedin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A preliminary autopsy was performed on the child Wednesday, but final results could take several weeks, said Bill Pellan, director of investigations for the Medical Examiner's Office.

Pellan said there was no visible trauma to the body and no indication the boy was dehydrated. Julian, who lived in Dunedin with his mother, Annette Hargis, was in prekindergarten at the school, a program for children with special needs, such as a learning disability. A letter from the principal went home to parents Tuesday, the last day of school, notifying them what had happened.
