Police department expansion rejected

PINELLAS PARK - City Council members unanimously agreed Thursday to reject all bids to expand the police department because they were over budget.

The lowest bid, by Angle and Schmid, was $4.42-million. The budget was $4.16-million. The decision shelves thoughts of the expansion, Assistant City Manager Tom Shevlin said, and city staff will consider revamping the existing building. Council members also delayed until July 24 a request for a zoning change to build a Muslim school on land on 66th Street N just south of 94th Avenue N.
