Local cadet completes training

Cadet Robert Edwin Lee Wald, of Brandon, has completed basic training at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.

Wald, 18, plans to graduate in 2008 from West Point and be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Brandon High in May and is the son of Ralph Wald and the late Linda Wald of Brandon.

Teenager of the year

Brandon Elks Lodge has selected Amanda Anton of Valrico as its 2004 Teenager of the Year. Anton was recognized for her accomplishments in the classroom, on the athletic field and for her community service.

Each month a teenager of the month is selected by the Elks Lodge. Nominees are judged based on character, leadership, community service and scholastic achievement. The winner receives a $50 savings bond. From the monthly teenager selections, one is chosen as the teenager of the year and receives an additional $100 savings bond.

Anton, 18, is a 2004 graduate of Durant High School. She is a student at the University of Florida and is the daughter of Terrence and Michelle Anton of Valrico.
