Robbery note had a surprise on the back

CLEARWATER - Bonnie and Clyde they aren't.

Police said a man who held up a Clearwater bank earlier this month passed a demand note that was written on the back of a deposit slip with his name on it. The note was written by his female companion, police said.

Clearwater police said Brice D. Wright, 23, was planning to rob the Pinellas County Employees Federal Credit Union, 1601 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., on Nov. 9. He asked his female companion, Anna C. Pretty, 19, to write a note demanding money, police said.

Pretty grabbed the first piece of paper she could find and wrote the note, police said. Wright went into the bank about 10:15 that morning and handed the note to a teller. He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. He also left the note behind.

"So essentially, he left all his personal information there at the scene of the crime," said Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor. "And he should go to jail for that, if nothing else."

Police began searching for Wright after seeing his name on the deposit slip. But Wright and Pretty had gone to Kentucky.

On Tuesday morning, a man and a woman entered a Lexington, Ky., bank and robbed it. Investigators there suspected Wright and Pretty and then learned that the pair had boarded a Greyhound bus for Clearwater.

Kentucky detectives and Clearwater police greeted the bus at the Greyhound station on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard about 6 p.m. Wednesday. When Wright and Pretty got off, they were taken into custody.

Wright of Clearwater was arrested in connection with both the Clearwater and Lexington robberies. Pretty was charged in the Lexington robbery but has not been charged in the Clearwater case. Police said more charges are possible.

Pretty of Largo was being held at the Pinellas County Jail on Thursday evening in lieu of $30,013 bail. She also is charged with skipping a court hearing on a cocaine possession charge from September.

Wright was being held at the jail in lieu of $55,000 bail. His criminal record includes charges of drug possession, records show.
