FishHawk offers door-to-door bargains

FishHawk Ranch residents pile up yesterday's treasures for a popular community garage sale.

When residents of FishHawk Ranch clean house each spring, neighbors from all around the region come calling.

"They come with pickup trucks and trailers," said Richelle Wiska, the community's event coordinator. "They're lined up outside the gates until the gates open. It's quite the affair."

At least 300 houses are registered to participate in the communitywide garage sale on Saturday. The event runs from 8 a.m. until noon. Driveways in FishHawk Ranch will turn into treasure troves of unwanted furniture, clothing and outgrown children's toys.

FishHawk Ranch's twice-a-year garage sale tends to draw crowds. For starters, it offers a higher concentration of homes in one place than garage shoppers can find most weekends. And residents in the well-to-do subdivision cast off high-quality goods.

"I was selling children's clothing with the tags still on," said Dawn Turner, program director and FishHawk Ranch resident.

"I would price things to sell," she said. "Once things are in the driveway, it's not coming back."

FishHawk Ranch does not track the volume of visitors during the garage sales. Residents who sign up to participate pay a $5 fee, which covers signs and advertising.

Shoppers can get into FishHawk Ranch from FishHawk Boulevard and Lithia Pinecrest Road. Gated communities within the subdivision will be open for the garage sale.

Experienced shoppers often arrive early. Letitia Stein can be reached at 661-2443 or lstein@sptimes.com
