Deputies find body, open murder investigation

SAFETY HARBOR - Pinellas County sheriff's detectives began a murder investigation after a woman was found dead in her home Thursday evening.
Deputies went to 420 Maple Way at about 7:30 p.m. after getting a call to check on the occupant's welfare. They found the woman dead, an apparent victim of a homicide, and called detectives to the scene, said sheriff's spokesman Mac McMullen.
The Sheriff's Office was not releasing the woman's age, the manner of death or any other information about the case late Thursday.
