Out & aboutBy MARY ELMORE
© St. Petersburg Times, MELISSA FERRICK AT SKIPPER'S: Melissa Ferrick has self-produced five CDs and has 10 years of experience as a singer-songwriter. Ferrick has opened for Laura Love, followed by an overwhelming response at WMNF's Tropical Heatwave. Her songs tell stories of lust, loss and liberation. Also performing the same night is Chime. This five piece band from Sarasota brings a message of universal hope with a blend of Celtic, Middle Eastern and rock sounds. Members bring in influences ranging from Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Ian Anderson, Dead Can Dance and Rage Against the Machine. The core of the band came from Frog & Flower, a band with Irish, Arabic, classical and folk musical influences. The show is at 8 p.m. tonight at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, near Nebraska. Tickets are $16 at the door or at the WMNF radio station.
