© St. Petersburg Times, TodayKID KABASH: Tampa Jewish Family Services, 13009 Community Campus Drive, is seeking volunteers and sponsors for its Kid Kabash that will be held at Old McMickey's Farm in Odessa. The annual fundraising event will be from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 and will feature a moon walk, pony rides, face painting, chicken catching, raffles, hay rides and a silent auction. Musical entertainment will be provided by a disc jockey. Lunch will be available. Proceeds will be used for the center's programs and services that include counseling, senior support services, community food bank, Tikvah special needs programs, Jewish Singles Network, workshops and support groups, information and referral, Russian Resettlement and premarital preparation courses approved by Hillsborough County. For information, call (813) 960-1848. SaturdayYMCA GRAND OPENING: The New Tampa Family YMCA will celebrate its grand opening under the Big Top. The circus-themed event will kickoff at 8:45 a.m. with breakfast donated by Panera bread followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Visitors may tour the facility from 9:30 a.m. to noon and then enjoy music by the pool until 4 p.m. The event will also feature juggling shows, circus performers, balloon art, face painting, snow cones and popcorn. MondayLONG TERM CARE: Lisa Caddell will present a free program called "Planning for Long Term Care" at 7:30 p.m. at the Lutz Branch Library, 101 Lutz-Lake Fern Road. Caddell, senior long term care specialist at General Electric Capital Assurance Co., will discuss long term care costs and will present choices you can make to safeguard yourself and family. For information, call (813) 264-3800. DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS: Hillsborough County staff and engineers will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. to discuss drainage improvements in Carrollwood Village. The meeting will be in the cafeteria at Essrig Elementary School, 13131 Lynn Road. Residents are encouraged to attend to discuss the $160,000 project that will include replacing the outfall structure of the south end of Stillwater Lake. WednesdayDEADLINE FOR BIBLICAL STUDY: Today is the deadline to register for the in-depth study of the Old Testament Tabernacle at First Baptist Church of Lutz. The biblical study, "A Woman's Heart God's Dwelling Place," written by Beth Moore, will explore the account of the building of the tabernacle, the significance of its intricate design, its pivotal role in God's eternal plan, the grand fulfillment of its purpose by Jesus Christ and its variety of meanings for your walk with God today. Several facilitators will be teaching the Bible study. Classes will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7 in the church's Fellowship Hall at 18116 U.S. 41 N. Cost is $10, which includes the Bible study book. INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS DISCUSSED: Improvements at the Gunn Highway/Anderson Road intersection and the Keystone Park entrance on Gunn Highway will be discussed at a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Hillsborough County staff and engineers will meet with residents in the cafeteria at Citrus Park Elementary School, 7700 Gunn Highway. Looking aheadCOMPUTER CLASS FOR SENIORS: SeniorNet at the University of South Florida, 4202 E Fowler Ave., is offering a computer fundamentals course for seniors. The hands-on class will be taught by senior volunteers in two sessions. Computer Fundamentals will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays Aug. 27, 30 and Sept. 6, 10 and Tuesdays and Fridays Aug. 28, 31 and Sept. 4 and 7. SeniorNet is open to persons age 50 and older. Coke, will be on display at Centre Gallery from Aug. 27 through Sept. 14. The exhibit, which celebrates the feminine spirit, features watercolor, pastels and other mixed mediums. A reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 31. Centre Gallery is in the Phyllis P. SHOWER FOR SPOUSE ABUSE SHELTERS: The GFWC Lutz-Land O'Lakes Woman's Club is hosting its annual shower to benefit spouse abuse shelters. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 30 at the Lutz Community Center, 100 First St. NW. Donations will benefit The Spring in Hillsborough County and the Salvation Army Shelter in Pasco County. Many items are needed including new twin sheets, new towels, large diapers, toothbrushes, hair brushes, laundry supplies, paper goods, Children's Tylenol, insect repellent, Band-Aids, small watercolor kits and bath mats. Lunch will be served at noon; donation is $4.
